BUCHAREST - capital city , the largest in Romania , is situated in the south-east of the country , on the River Dambovitza. It was founded in the 14th century ( although it was inhabited as early as the Palaeolithic ) ; the avantage offered by a town standing at the cross-roads of trade routes made Vlad the Impaler have the fortress built in the mid 15th century.It became capital of the principality of Wallachia in 1659 and of Romania in 1861 after the unification of the two Romania principalities in 1859. In 1918 , when the principality of Transylvania came back to the motherland, Bucharest became the capital of Great Romania. In spite of its troubled history , Romania's capital can definitely claim the status of a modern city , being a perfect blend of traditional and up-to-date sights in its whole layout.

Bucurestiul-capaitala,cel mai mare oras din Romania,este situat in sud-estul tarii,pe raul Dambovita.A fost fondat in secolul al 14-lea(desi a fost locuit inca din Paleolitic);avantajul oferit de un oras aflat la intersectarea drumurilor comerciale,l-au determinat pe Vlad Tepes sa construiasca fortareata la mijlocul secolului 15.A devenit capitala Principatului Valahia in 1659 si a Romaniei in 1861 dupa unirea Principatelor Romane in 1859.In 1918,cand Principatul din Transilvania s-a alipit de tara-mama ,Bucurestiul devine capitala Romaniei Mari.In ciuda istoriei zbuciumate,capitala Romaniei poate sa obtina statutul de oras modern,fiind un amestec perfect intre traditional si modernism pe tot cuprinsul sau.
