I think this proverb means that charity, that some people do in their free time, is a value that humans receive at home, when thei grow up with their family because charity means to forget a little about yourself and your needs and care about the ones who hasn't been as lucky as you. Even if you are a little child and think about your mom ,for example you don't go to see a movie with your friends because you want to wash the dishes instead of your mother, or you are a mature citizen of a country who wants to help poor population, for example to work at a cafeteria to make food for them, in both cases you are doing charity. But if your mom and dad didn't teach you at home to help them and just to play on the computer all day long, when you will grow up, at your house, you won't be a man who helps you will be a man who is helped.
