Scotland (in English: Scotland in Gaelic: Alba) is a country of the United Kingdom. [1] [2] [3] The capital Edinburgh, Scotland occupies the northern third of the island of Britain having included in it over 790 islands [4] and bounded to the south of England.
On September 18, 2014 in Scotland held an independence referendum, in which majority of the population has decided that Scotland will continue on to join the United Kingdom, rejecting the idea of separation and create a independent state. [5] [6] [7]
One of the most visited areas in Scotland is the Loch Ness lake, where according to legend, lived a monster Nessie called by locals.
A tourist attraction is Highland Games, which was a competition between Scottish clans. Today is an athletic competition. Some evidence exists that original called "Caber Toss" to be thrown into a tree trunk 5 meters long.
Scotland is also famous for bagpipe music and local dances.
