Last week I went to an exhibition of paintings in the Barbican Arts Centre. I'm not really a great art lover, but I had read good reviews of that exhibition and I was keen to see it. When I arrived, lots of people were already queueing in front of the doors. I joined the queue and when the doors opened, I realized that I had stood in the queue for more than half an hour. I was hoping it was worth it. But, once I was inside many of the paintings disappointed me. I had never seen such nonsense before. Most of the paintings seemed upside down to me. Finnaly, as I was looking rather stupidly at one of the paintings, an old gentlmen stopped behind me and began to explain the whole thing to me. He kindly answered all of my questions and we were talking for over an hour when he looked at his watch and told me he had to leave. We shook hands and said "good-bye". For me it was as if someone had given me a pair of magic glasses. Now I find that all the paintings were really beautiful.

Observaţii privind timpurile folosite în fragment
- Past Tense Simple arată o acțiune care s-a petrecut și s-a încheiat complet în trecut (e.g. Mr Levi Gamin left his house), iar Past Tense Continuous exprimă tot o acțiune finalizată în trecut, dar care are aspect progresiv (e.g. he was wearing such strange clothes).
- Past Tense Simple se traduce în română prin perfect compus sau perfect simplu; Past Tense Continuous se traduce prin imperfect.
- Past Perfect Tense (tradus prin „mai mult ca perfectul”) exprimă o acțiune petrecută înainte de o altă acțiune tot trecută (raport de anterioritate).
